Five Unhealthy Things To Avoid

I think learning to control your state of mind is one of the most important things we can do in life. Our thoughts, decisions, actions, and eventually lead to our results. So how do we control our internal state? There is a mind, body connection. The gut is known as the second brain. What we put into our body needs to be taken seriously. I believe this is the most critical aspect of my life because I need to be in my best condition daily to help others do the same. “What can I do every single day that will make me feel the best long term?” It all starts with knowing what goes into your body and paying attention to avoiding processed foods (chemicals), artificial sugar, excess carbohydrates, dairy, and drugs that mess around with your biochemistry, energy, and overall clarity.  Keep In mind, diet is unique to each person, and also your workouts and goals. This is what has proven to work for me.

Processed Foods

I thought I was healthy when I based what I ate on the marketing the food label displayed. Unfortunately, that is not the case at all! Most of the time, companies use cheap, dangerous ingredients to drive more profits. I simple rule I follow is that if you can’t pronounce any of the ingredients, then don’t buy it. You are only hurting yourself long term for short-term pleasure. We like eating unhealthy foods because it’s an instant pleasure effect by the short term feel-good chemical dopamine.

Artificial Sugars

I used to think that drinking sugar-free energy drinks, sweet and low with coffee, and other artificial sugars were healthy. They may indeed help not gain weight in some studies, but in the sense of other diseases like cancer, forming later in life will be enhanced. Also, it will make you feel a lack of clarity through everyday life. Alternatives will be avoiding sugar overall; this is by far one of the most addicting things for our bodies. It’s been said sugar is more addictive’s too hard drugs like cocaine. I do eat a lot of natural sugar from fruit and state to start basing your sugar fix on this.

Excess Carbohydrates

Currently, I avoid all bread, white rice, and pasta ( with exception to an occasional cheat day). These make me feel bloated, and I can’t digest them anymore. Also, I love to feel light and energy throughout my day. I do enjoy other carbs like sweet potato and quinoa a couple of times a week or before a run.

Dairy

Humans are not meant to drink any other animal’s milk. This is a fact; you can look it up. Also, dairy has many other unappetizing effects about it like a glass of milk contains pus and more. With that being said, I avoid most dairies, but I do enjoy eggs a couple of times a week. Cheese is my obsession, I try to avoid it.. but I do indulge in a cheesy meal a couple of times a month as a treat. Overall, dairy doesn’t make my stomach feel good after cutting it out; I don’t think it’s worth the loss of energy overall and possible constipation.

Other Drugs

I’ll touch base on the most common drugs society takes as usual. Alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine. First off, these are all drugs.. every single one. I was drinking alcohol every weekend in what people would consider a binge. Alcohol is the product of acid and decay; I will indulge in a couple of drinks once in a while. Cutting out drinking to less than a handful a year changed my life. Caffeine is a big one that’s abused; it’s a stimulant and also a psychoactive substance (mind-altering). I think a black coffee daily or mixed with almond milk is not bad. It can be beneficial, once we become reliant on a substance to give us energy and say, “I need my coffee.” that’s when it’s an addiction. Nicotine is horrible to smoke in any form; Cigarettes shouldn’t be touched at all because of all the additives. With that being said, I do believe in using nicotine to enhance cognitive abilities. This can be nicotine gum or anything like; I don’t personally use this. I know this can help people focus, and a lot of writers who use it as a tool. It’s all about using any of these as a tool, celebration, or reward system. Keep in mind you don’t want to neurologically link something negative as a reward, though!

Sometimes people can’t tell the difference in energy because the body is a master adaptation machine. I can confidently say that after this, I have never felt better, and I can tell the difference if I even touch any of these five categories. It feels like a mental and physical “hangover.” I great strategy I use is I look at foods in a way in which that will provide me with more energy overall and make my decision. We each deserve better energy and better living! Health and wellness are essential, and we can easier treat our bodies like temples or pay for the abuse years later. With self-love comes better nutrition too. Look in the mirror and tell yourself, “I love you” more often, as cheesy as that sounds!
